Lesson Study
Lesson Study is a way to collaborate with other teachers through planning lessons, anticipating and assessing student thinking, and observing other teachers. Lesson studies usually consist of groups of four to seven members and have a four part process. First a goal for the lesson study is set and one teacher is chosen to teach and be observed by the other team members. Next, teachers collaboratively plan a lesson based off the goal. Thirdly, the lesson is taught and all team members observe the lesson. Lastly, the entire team debriefs and reflects on the lesson.
During my Senior year at Michigan State, I was placed at Holt High School. Throughout my experience here, I participated in four lesson studies, one of which I taught. This past year during my internship at Waverly Middle School, I participated in another four lesson studies where I taught the lesson once. The two most recent lesson studies I participated in were "Exploring the Triangle Inequality with Straws" and "Proof of Pythagorean Theorem."
